David Webster

David Webster was born in Wadsworth, Ohio in 1947. He earned his B.F.A. from Miami University and his M.F.A. from Yale University. After living in France for twenty-two years, he returned to New York. Equally adept in painting, sculpture, and works on paper, Webster brings an extraordinary range to a body of work that is simultaneously visceral and intellectual. His practice spans large-scale canvases, digital mixed media, vitrine installations, relief sculpture, and intimate works on vellum. The human body - rendered in chrome, neon, fire, and wire - is his persistent subject: dissected, reconstructed, and transfigured across five decades of sustained practice. Webster is the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant.
